The Apartment Work Project on Avenida de Roma transforms a former doctor's office into a home for a couple with children who wanted to return to the neighborhood where they grew up. Located on the historic Avenida de Roma, in the heart of Alvalade, the project dialogues with the modernist heritage of the 1930s, a period when this area of Lisbon was conceived as a housing model for the urban bourgeoisie, marked by the ambition of modern architecture associated with a cutting-edge society.
The intervention draws on the intrinsic qualities of the building and its natural light, reinterpreting the idea of living in a 1930s apartment through a refined architectural gesture. The project and the work integrate two suites, a bedroom, kitchen, and living room, defined by a minimalist aesthetic where chromatic neutrality, simplicity of lines, and custom-designed fixed furniture reinforce spatial continuity. A continuous element of light runs across the ceiling between the two facades, illuminating the social spaces and drawing the eye to the living room, where natural light amplifies the depth and creates a welcoming atmosphere.
Materials such as white marble and solid wood play a central role, giving character and identity without detracting from the overall elegance. In the more intimate areas, large pieces of stone reveal the uniqueness of the veins and reinforce the authenticity of the material. The renovation of this apartment, carried out by CVZ, symbolizes the residential renaissance of central Lisbon, reflecting the current movement of returning to the city and the continued appreciation of one of Lisbon's most emblematic avenues, Avenida de Roma.
